DHFR's RNA expression is most expressed in immune organs and the blood, followed by the skeletal element which has a moderate level of expression. The protein is highly expressed in the exocrine gland, pharynx, intestines, reproductive organs and structures, oral glands, stomach, lungs, and the pancreas. Its RNA and protein expression in other systems is moderate to low.
